WHERE'S THE RAIN? After a lovely, wet December, the Rain-God has suddenly disappeared; and without the sweetly scented afternoon showers, boy, aren't we all scorching! At Emoyeni, we are trying to complete the roof over the carports and outside bungalow, but over the past few days outside work after 10.00am is meltdown stuff. Lets hope it is not too long before the cooling rains return.
NEW YEAR RETREAT
The first official retreat at Emoyeni took place over the New Year period - there were 7 of us altogether, to meditate in the new year, have time for reflection and to enjoy the nature walks, gardening and sharing the preparation of meals. It might have been a little rustic, but that somehow became part of the "together" feeling that was generated.
We have 4 beds available at the Centre, so it is now possible to stay over instead of just coming for a day visit. We still have quite a lot of renovation work to do, so things are still a bit rustic, but you are very welcome to come at any time and enjoy the centre for a few days.
Rusty fences are starting to come down, weeds and undergrowth cut back and metal debris carted away - opening up access to the trees around the house and veggie garden. Come and see !
WORKING WEEKENDS
Third Weekend each Month
Your help in enabling the Centre to become established is very important - not only in the valuable work that gets done, but also in creating the atmosphere that Emoyeni is "our" retreat centre. Please feel welcome to come anytime and share in the organic way that it is growing.
The working weekends for the next three months are:
January 20 & 21
February 17 & 18
March 17 & 18
You would be welcome to stay overnight for the weekend or just to come for one day on the Saturday or Sunday. Give us a ring or send an Email to let us know you are coming.
ACCOMMODATION
At present, with renovation work still in progress, we are operating Emoyeni on a Dana basis for overnight guests. There is no direct charge for accommodation but we do ask you to make a donation to the Centre.
CAN YOU GIVE ME A HOME?
Several days ago, a lovely large, white dog walked into the retreat centre. It was in good condition, had a new, leather collar and had a penchant for jumping into the back of our bakkie. No one in the area, including the local vet, recognises the dog, and the chances of locating its owner are steadily diminishing.
It is a male dog with a very friendly nature, probably a cross between a Labrador and a Collie or Alsatian, and has longish hair which is picking up ticks in the grassland by the hundreds. We have applied a treatment recommended by the vet, but feel that a long-haired dog in this hot climate, being so vulnerable to ticks, would have a much happier life in another home. So would you consider whether you would be able to give him a home? Please contact us if you are interested.
HELP US FIND A STOVE
During the New Year Retreat we quickly discovered that our small, portable stove had passed its limits. So we are looking to purchase a second-hand stove in good condition. Preferably a DEFY 424 stove with 4 plates and a decent oven.
If you know of someone wishing to sell such a stove or can help us locate one, please let us know. Thanks !
Best wishes for 2001!
